NEWS & FORTHCOMING EVENTS

Lead Hound “Botox” has 8 pups!

We are happy to announce that Botox has become the mother of 8 beautiful puppies. Unfortunately not all the litter survived but the remaining 4 dogs and 4 bitches are doing well. David is particularly pleased with the markings of one of the bitches which is almost entirely black.

Anyone interested in puppy walking contact David Harvey on 07909 607067.

Whilst on the subject of our hounds, the CFDH will try to repeat last year’s success at the Peterborough Festival of Hunting on Wednesday 21st July, where our hound Hamish came away with the supreme drag hound title as well as other accolades.

Cheshire Show 23rd June 2010

Cheshire Show turned out to be a scorcher! Blue skies and warm sunshine blessed the first day, thankfully it was a little cooler for the second day! The hound parade was a great success with many of the crowd joining David and the other Drag Hunts in the ring as we were joined by the North East Cheshire Drag Hunt and the Four Shires Bloodhounds. Our Huntsman’s picture even made the Manchester Evening News Show Feature the following day.

The Inter-Hunt Relay followed the hound parade after a quick change of tack. As usual things didn't quite go quite as planned! Jacqui Brown had been practicing for the team on Stuart Shaw's much improved horse “Ginger”, unfortunately he went lame on the day so some quick thinking was required. Our Whip, Joshua Warren, was thrown in at the deep end and rode David Harvey's second horse 'Devil'. The rest of the team was made up of amateur-whip, David Wright, on Harry Harvey's new mount for the season, Elvis. David Harvey, on old timer, Caesar and Olivia Arrowsmith on her 13'2 Stroller made up the quartet.

“Steady as you go” was the order of the day for the first round, but Olivia showed that Stroller meant business with a clear round against much bigger horses. Their performance was good enough to beat the Readyfield Bloodhounds to go through to the Semi-final. This round brought together the two local Drag packs and on this occasion the North East Cheshires were a bit sharper, leaving the CFDH 3 fences behind at the finish, with David Harvey closing on Joe Murphy as he crossed the line. The final between the North East Cheshires and The Meynell saw The Meynell triumph as an uncharacteristic mistake by Danny Carroll gave them the edge. Just a shame Danny couldn’t have obliged in earlier round! The Meynell were also awarded the Best Turned-out prize.

A big thank you to all who came to give a helping hand and support the team, particularly those who gave an invaluable hand setting out the course and acting as the Ring Party throughout the competition. Keep a look out on the website for the next Inter Hunt Relay and up and coming events.

Charles Finney, M.D.H.

Charles Finney, Master of the Cheshire Farmer’s Drag Hunt since 2002 has announced he is to resign his Mastership from May 1st, 2010. He is leaving the Hunt to pursue his personal and family life in other areas.

Charles was an integral part of the CFDH Mastership for seven seasons and has been actively involved in the organisation and co-ordination of all our activities. Not only has Charles proved to be a charismatic fieldmaster but he also put a great effort into setting and organising our Meets as well as sponsoring many of the social events organised by the CDFH.

There is no doubt that as a character and fieldmaster Charles will be sadly missed. But it’s not all bad news, Charles has assured us that he will continue to join the field as and when his future commitments allow.

We are sure all our members join in wishing Charles all the very best and good luck in the future as well as thanking him for his past efforts in establishing the CFDH as one of the most popular drag hunts in the country.

Thank You Charles!

Our New Masters

The Cheshire Farmers are pleased to announce the appointment of two new Masters for the coming season. Damian Williams, a founding member of the pack has accepted the appointment for the 2010-2011 Season. Damian and wife Jo are familiar faces to all our members as Jo collects cap on meet days and Damian is regularly seen whipping in. The couple currently sit on the Hunt Committee and are actively involved in organising and promoting events. Damian will be joined by Steve Evason who will take on the post of Master whilst continuing as Hunt Chairman. Steve sees his role as Master as an acknowledgement of his administrative skills rather than his riding ability! He certainly hopes this new promotion doesn’t jeopardise his position as current President of the Tumblers Club! As the new season approaches both new Masters have given their commitment to improve the hunt and build on the solid foundations that already exist.

Congratulations to them both!
